1878-CC PCGS MS-63 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin

Morgan Silver Dollars were the standard U.S. dollar coin between 1878 and 1904, returning briefly in 1921.

Morgan Dollars contain .7734 oz of silver. They were struck at several U.S. Mint branches, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and the legendary Carson City Mint, which ceased operations in 1893.

Today, SD Bullion sells 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins housed in PCGS slabs and graded as MS-63 samples.

The Design

The obverse showcases a left-facing bust of Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, which is adorned with wheat and cotton bolls, and a tiara inscribed with “LIBERTY.”

The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars symbolizing the Original Thirteen Colonies, and the coin’s year of issue accompany the image.

The reverse depicts a bald eagle with wings spread wide, clutching arrows and olive branches in its talons, framed by a laurel wreath.

The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” encircle the design, while “IN GOD WE TRUST” appears above the eagle’s head.

The “CC” mint mark is also present.

A PCGS MS-63 Coin

PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is internationally recognized for appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale as a parameter. It works independently of sovereign mints, certifying coins from 1 to 70, based on their condition.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business circulation sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may exhibit marks and minor visible hairlines, but still retains an attractive overall appearance.
