Silver opened 2025 at $29.41 an ounce, still consolidating in the higher range it had carved out after breaking $30 resistance the year before. Through the spring and summer the metal climbed steadily on persistent global supply deficits, heavy Eastern demand out of China and India, and a tightening physical market, pushing past $36 in June and $39 in July. The real fireworks came in the fourth quarter. Silver accelerated sharply through September, and on October 10, 2025, it crossed $50 an ounce for the first time since its January 1980 nominal high — officially breaking a 45-year-old record. The rally continued in a volatile spike, with silver touching $54.10 an ounce on October 17, 2025, before pulling back on profit-taking and easing physical market tightness.

That pullback proved brief. Silver resumed its climb through November and December, tearing past $59, then $69, and finally closing out the year at $74.84 an ounce on December 30, 2025 — more than 2.5 times its starting price for the year. Underlying the entire move were annual market deficits estimated above 500 million ounces, record ETF inflows, and a shrinking gold-to-silver ratio as silver decisively outperformed gold.
