In 2016, the US Mint prepared a special edition to celebrate the 100th anniversary of three remarkable designs in American coinage history.
The 1/4 oz Standing Liberty Gold Quarter Dollar Coin is the second of the 3-coin set released by the US Mint in 2016.
It consists of a 24k gold quarter dollar coin, produced in the US Mint’s West Point branch in a limited strike. The coin showcases the Standing Liberty Design, which was originally featured on the circulating silver quarters from 1916 to 1930 in the US.

The Design
The Standing Liberty Design is a creation of Hermon MacNeil. The image presents Lady Liberty as a warrior, carrying a shield and an olive branch, as she walks through an opening in a wall adorned with 13 stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The engravings that are featured on this side are "LIBERTY" on top, "AU24K," and "1/4 oz.," referring to gold content and weight, and "2016," standing for the year of mintage. The “W” mint mark is discreetly engraved on the lower left, and the artist's initial is mirrored on the opposite side.
The reverse displays a flying Bald Eagle, surrounded by inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “QUARTER DOLLAR,” and again, thirteen stars. The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” lies above the eagle.
Mintage
2016 marks the Centennial of the Mercury Silver Dime, the Standing Liberty Silver Quarter, and the Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar coins. Therefore, paying tribute to this remarkable date, the US Mint prepared a limited strike of Gold Coins reproducing these remarkable designs.
The 1/4 oz Standing Liberty Gold Quarter Dollar Coin is the second design featured. It is a quarter-dollar coin, bearing legal tender status and weighing 1/4 Troy oz of 99.99% pure gold.
