The US Mint officially launched the Sacagwea Dollar in 2000. Prior to its release into circulation, the US Mint struck a small number of Sacagwea Dollars in 22k gold, intending to release them to collectors. Unfortunately, these plans were scrapped and only a handful of coins escaped the melting pot. Twelve surviving coins flew on a historic Space Shuttle Columbia mission before the coins were locked away deep in Fort Knox forever. These original 22k coins will never be available to the public, but now you can own the next best thing, rare 2025 24k Proof Gold Sacagwea Proof Dollars minted exclusively for collectors at the esteemed West Point Mint.
