NGC/PCGS MS-61 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coin - Random Year
The US Mint produced Indian Gold Eagle Coins consistently from 1907 to 1919 and then sporadically until 1933 through its branches in Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.
These coins, which served as the official $10 currency in the US, contained .48375 ounces of gold and showcased a design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
During the economic crisis of the 1930s, the Indian Gold Eagle's gold content made it a target for hoarding or melting, significantly reducing the number of these coins available in the market.
Today, SD Bullion offers $10 Indian Gold Eagle Coins of varied mintages, certified as MS-61 samples and sealed in either NGC or PCGS slabs, randomly selected from our inventory.
Coin Highlights
- Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as an MS-61 coin by either NGC or PCGS;
- Contains .48375 oz of actual gold content;
- Produced by the US Mint;
- Pre-1933 gold coin;
- Holds a USD 10 face value;
- Featured with Saint-Gauden’s design;
- Of varied mintages.
The Design
The obverse portrays Lady Liberty wearing a headdress made of feathers, representing the Native American heritage, inscribed “LIBERTY.” The year of issuance lies beneath Liberty’s bust.
The reverse showcases the majestic eagle standing on an arrow wrapped around an olive branch. The standard engravings on this side are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the coin’s face value.
In some strikes, the reverse design may also feature the “IN GOD WE TRUST” mottos and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
An NGC/PCGS MS-61 coin
PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service and NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraise and grade coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.
An MS-Mint State coin has the same format as a business coin. Grade 61 indicates that the coin’s mint luster may be diminished, with clusters of minor contact marks and noticeable hairlines.
