The Royal Canadian Mint released the Treasure Maple Leaf Series in 2024 to celebrate King Charles III’s arrival as leader of the British Commonwealth.

The series is composed of Gold and Silver Maple Leaf coins imprinted with three special-themed privy marks: The Polar Bear, the Year of the Dragon, and the Congratulations.

The Design

The official portrait of King Charles III stamped on the obverse is a creation of Artist Steven Rosati. It also features the engravings “CHARLES III” and “5 DOLLARS 2024,” referring to His Majesty’s name, the coin’s face value, and mintage.

The reverse design features the traditional Walter Ott’s Maple Leaf design and the Congratulations privy mark, which showcases encircled fireworks on the lower left.

The nation’s name, “CANADA,” arches over the image while the coin’s purity flanks it, repeating “9999”. At the bottom rim, the other engravings refer to weight and metal content in English and French, “FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR.”

MS stands for Mint State, referring to a coin made in the same format as a business circulation sample, which has never been in circulation. Grade 70 is attributed to a flawless coin.
