The Design - a Series’ Trademark

As a trademark, the Series proposes to depict the chosen leaders’ left-profile bust, wearing a characteristic hat or ornament to identify their iconic role.

Ulysses S. Grant, for instance, is portrayed wearing his headgear, the Union Army uniform hat. Emperor Julius Caesar is depicted with a laurel wreath, the easily recognizable crown of Roman Emperors. Hernán Cortés wears a morion, the typical Spanish helmet.

The personalities’ effigies are usually accompanied by engravings that identify the referred Commander and the year of issuance.

Size Options

The series delivers limited strikes of silver and gold coins of 99.99% purity in two annual strikes.

Silver coins are only available in 5 Troy oz samples, but gold coins are produced in 1/10 oz and 1 Troy oz weights.

Legal Tender Status

The Scottsdale Mint privately produces the Commander Series, but they are legal tender and contain monetary denominations according to their sizes and metal composition.

The coins debuted in the numismatic world with Liberia’s guaranteed legal tender status. However, the series' warrant became Samoa's from their fourth strike, corresponding to the 2025 Julius Caesar edition.

Introducing the 2025 Ulysses S. Grant Coins

This year’s fifth strike in the series brings Ulysses S. Grant to the forefront, honoring his military brilliance and presidential legacy. As the commanding general of the Union Army, Grant led his forces to decisive victories, including the Siege of Vicksburg and the Battle of Appomattox, ultimately securing the Confederacy’s surrender and preserving the Union.

His leadership earned him widespread respect, paving the way for his two-term presidency (1869–1877).

As the 18th President, Grant was a staunch advocate for Reconstruction. He worked tirelessly to protect the rights of formerly enslaved individuals and combat the rise of the Ku Klux Klan. His administration also spearheaded economic growth, infrastructure expansion, and civil service reforms, profoundly impacting the nation’s development.
