Morgan Dollars are silver coins named after their design creator, the US Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan. 

They circulated in American hands from 1878 to 1904, with one final issuance in 1921. Their enduring legacy of American history and fine coinage led to a contemporary restrike a century later, in 2021, when the U.S. Mint celebrated that milestone.

Morgan Silver Dollars turned into a regular restrike. These coins, in particular, were acquired from the US Mint on the first day of their official release and submitted to PCGS appraisal.

The Design

The obverse portrays Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, and a tiara inscribed "LIBERTY." 

The motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" accompanies the image along with thirteen stars representing the original colonies and the year of issuance. 

On the reverse, a Bald Eagle is depicted with outstretched wings holding arrows and olive branches in its talons, encircled by laurels. 

Further engravings read: "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "ONE DOLLAR."

A PCGS MS-70 First Day of Issue coin

PCGS (Professional Coins Grading Service) appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

PCGS considers a “First Day of Issue” coin a sample purchased from its original mint on the first day of its official release and submitted to its appraisal.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.
