2024 PCGS MS-70 First Strike 1 oz US 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medal with Privy Mark
The U.S. Mint commemorates the 230th anniversary of the historic Flowing Hair dollar, the first dollar coin issued by the federal government on October 15, 1794.
This modern silver medal precisely replicates the original obverse and reverse designs. It is crafted from 1 troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver.
To mark this milestone, only 1,794 medals will be produced, each featuring a special “230” privy mark. Of these, 230 will come with a certificate of authenticity personally signed by United States Mint Director Ventris C. Gibson.
SD Bullion offers the 2024 1 oz US 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medal with Privy Mark, which was purchased from the US Mint within 30 days of its official release and graded as an MS-70 sample by PCGS.

The Design
The obverse is a replica of the US first dollar coin, which showcases Lady Liberty's right-profile bust surrounded by 15 stars. The stars represent the fifteen states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794. It also contains the word “LIBERTY” and an updated “2024” date.
The “230” privy mark is on the lower right.
The reverse features a laurel wreath surrounding an eagle with spread wings in the center, an early predecessor of the American heraldic eagle, and the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
A PCGS MS-70 First Strike Coin
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) operates independently of sovereign mints, evaluating and grading coins. Utilizing the Sheldon Scale, a grading system from 1 to 70, they meticulously assess coins based on their condition.
According to PCGS, “First Strike” refers to coins purchased from their original mints within the first 30 days of their official release and submitted to its appraisal.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.
