2024 PCGS MS-70 1 oz US 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medal – Flowing Hair Label
To commemorate a landmark moment in American numismatic history, the U.S. Mint marked the 230th anniversary of the Flowing Hair Dollar—the first silver dollar officially issued by the federal government of the United States.
Authorized under the Coinage Act of 1792 and first struck on October 15, 1794, the original Flowing Hair Dollar symbolized the young nation’s emergence with a sovereign monetary system. Designed by Robert Scot, its defining feature is Lady Liberty portrayed with flowing hair, a powerful expression of freedom and independence.
With only 1,758 examples struck in 1794, the original coin is among the rarest and most celebrated issues in U.S. numismatics. This modern silver medal faithfully recreates both the obverse and reverse designs of the historic coin, struck from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver with exceptional detail.
SD Bullion offers the 2024 1 oz US 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medal, certified and encapsulated by PCGS as a flawless MS-70 and presented with the Flowing Hair Label.

The Design
The obverse faithfully reproduces Robert Scot’s original Flowing Hair design, featuring Lady Liberty in right-facing profile with flowing hair. Fifteen stars encircle her portrait, representing the states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794. The design is completed with the inscription “LIBERTY” and an updated “2024” date.
The reverse showcases an early depiction of the American eagle with outstretched wings, enclosed by a laurel wreath. This imagery foreshadows the heraldic eagle that would later become standard on U.S. coinage. The inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” surrounds the central design.
A PCGS MS-70 Coin
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is one of the most respected independent third-party grading authorities in the numismatic industry. Coins are evaluated using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
The “MS” designation refers to Mint State, indicating a coin struck for circulation-style production that has never entered circulation. An MS-70 grade represents a flawless specimen with no post-production imperfections under magnification.
