NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue 2024 1 oz Silver Britannia and Liberty Coin - Black Core
The US Mint and the Royal Mint gathered for an exceptional occasion: the release of a commemorative edition of gold and silver coins.
The 2024 1 oz Silver Britannia and Liberty Coin results from this historic partnership and delivers 1 Troy oz of 99.9% fine silver bullion with an alluring design that joins Britannia from the UK and Lady Liberty from the US.
Over time, the representation of American Liberty, frequently portrayed in diverse female figures, embodies a core principle deeply esteemed by Americans. Her presence has adorned U.S. coins since the country's independence. Likewise, Britannia, a consistent figure on British coins since the late 1600s, epitomizes the essence of Britain. Often linked with maritime prowess, this allegorical depiction has become an emblem of national honor and unity.
This coin, in particular, is one struck on day #1 of the Royal Mint production, which SD Bullion proudly offers sealed in an NGC slab and certified as a perfect MS-70 coin.

The Design
The effigy of King Charles III stamped on the obverse of these coins is the same one portrayed in the Britannia Series. It was designed by Martin Jennings and features His Majesty’s left-profile bust.
The inscriptions that encircle the effigy correspond to “CHARLES III,” the initials “D.G.REX.F.D,” which in Latin means “By the grace of God, King,” and “2 POUNDS,” for face value.
Britannia and Liberty are depicted through their right-profile busts, imprinted in opposing orientations.
Britannia, designed by Royal Mint Chief Engraver Gordon Summers, wears a Corinthian helmet and carries a trident. Lady Liberty, created by the US Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna, carries a torch and has free-flowing hair adorned with stars.
The coin’s name and information regarding issuance, weight, fineness, and metal content are inscribed at the border and read “BRITANNIA AND LIBERTY,” “2024,” and “1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER.”
An NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue Coin
The NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company is a third-party service that appraises and grades coins based on the Sheldon Grading Scale, independently of sovereign mints.
The Sheldon scale ranks coins based on their condition, from 1 to 70.
As the moniker suggests, “First Day of Issue” refers to coins manufactured on day #1 of production in the Royal Mint. MS stands for Mint State, referring to a coin made in the same format as a business circulation sample, which has never been in circulation. 70 is the highest grade and is attributed to flawless coins.
