The Design

The reverse showcases Philip Nathan’s classic 1987 artwork, portraying Britannia as a warrior facing fierce winds and crashing waves. She wears a Corinthian helmet, grips a trident, and carries the Union Jack shield. 

The scene is framed by fine micro-engraving reading “Decus et Tutamen,” along with a second border detailing the coin’s year, weight, purity, and metal content: “‘BRITANNIA’ 2026’ 1 oz’ 999’ FINE’ SILVER.’”

The obverse features Martin Jennings’ depiction of King Charles III, presenting His Majesty’s left-facing profile. Encircling the portrait is the inscription “CHARLES III·D·G·REX·F·D·2 POUNDS,” signifying the King’s name, the Latin phrase “By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith,” and the coin’s face value.

Anti-counterfeiting 

Four anti-counterfeiting measures are incorporated into the reverse design.

The first anticounterfeiting measure is the micro-text “Decus et Tutamen,” which means “an ornament and a safeguard” around Britannia’s artistry. As you move the coin, the image on the lower left changes from a padlock to a trident. The movement also brings life to the waves in the background because of the surface animation. Finally, Britannia’s shield is imprinted with tincture lines alternating patterns.
