Music Legends is a new series from The British Royal Mint that pays homage to the bands and musicians whose personality, sound, and style has influenced each passing decade – a tradition that is beautifully etched in each design of the coins.

The second issue of the Music Legends series from the British Royal Mint is devoted to Elton John. Elton John is top-five all-time in most albums sold globally, with 300 million records sold. His single "Candle in the Wind" is his most successful release. Originally published in 1973, it was only with revised lyrics that it gained widespread publicity and was sold over 37 million times. In 1997, Elton John sang the song at the funeral of his friend Diana, Princess of Wales. A hat, a bow tie, and glasses in the form of a note-a traditional stage costume of the quirky performer on the reverse of the coin. Also used in the pattern is the inscription 'ELTON JOHN' and a section of the British flag.

The coin is produced using one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, like most other British Silver Coins.

The obverse features the most recent portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark and unveiled in 2015. Encircling Her Majesty’s portrait is the monetary denomination of the coin as well as the text “ELIZABETH II” and “D G REG F D”.
