The Tudor Beast is a renowned coin collection, meticulously crafted by the Royal Mint. It delivers gold, platinum, and silver coins with a stunning reverse design signed by artist David Lawrence.

The series’ motif is ten beasts that the British royal ancestry seals. Henri VIII, the second Tudor of the dynasty, turned them into stone statues on the Palace Moat’s Bridge and the Royal Mint in bullion coins with modern designs.

The Debuting Obverse Design

The obverse features the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The image is a creation of Jody Clark and dates back to 2015. Her Majesty got a right-profile bust wearing the glorious George IV State Diadem Crown. Around the image, read “5 POUNDS” for the denomination, “ELIZABETH II” and “D. G. REG. F. D.” standing for “By the grace of God, Queen” in Latin.

The New Obverse Design

Because Queen Elizabeth II passed away in 2022, the obverse design of the collection was updated to welcome the new monarch.

From the series’s 3rd edition on, the obverse portrays King Charles III’s effigy designed by Martin Jennings along with the inscriptions “CHARLES III,” “5 POUNDS,” and “D.G.REX.F.D.,” referring to the coin’s face value. The Latin initials mean “Dei Gracia Rex,” by the Grace of God, King.

Along with their corresponding shields, the design features engravings that indicate weight, metal content, fineness, and year of issuance.

The chain mail animation texture in the backdrop works as an extra security feature.
