During the conflict, King George III aimed to retain British authority over the American colonies. At the same time, George Washington, as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, led the struggle for independence, ultimately securing victory and emerging as a key founding figure of the United States.

The Design

The reverse features an elegant double portrait, designed by the artist Bella Biggs. It portrays the effigies of British King George III and American President George Washington facing each other. The design is surrounded by ‘OUR LIVES, OUR FORTUNES AND OUR SACRED HONOR’, a famous sentence written into the American Declaration of Independence.

On the obverse, King Charles III’s depiction, designed by Martin Jennings, is surrounded by the inscription “CHARLES·III·D·G·REX·F·D·10·POUNDS·2025,” signifying the King’s name, the Latin phrase “By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith,” the year of mintage, and the coin’s face value.

Because it is a proof coin, it showcases mirror-like surfaces that beautifully contrast with its frosted design elements.
