The Design

On the obverse, Martin Jennings’ depiction of King Charles III is encircled by the inscription “CHARLES III·D·G·REX·F·D·5 POUNDS·2025,” signifying the King’s name, the Latin phrase “By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith,” the year of mintage, and the coin’s face value.

Artist Bella Biggs designed the reverse with an elegant double portrait, with the bust of British King George III facing the effigy of American President George Washington. The image is surrounded by ‘OUR LIVES, OUR FORTUNES AND OUR SACRED HONOR’, which is written into the American Declaration of Independence.

Because it is a proof coin, it showcases mirror-like surfaces that beautifully contrast with its frosted design elements.
