George Washington, as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, led the American forces in their fight for independence, ultimately securing victory and establishing himself as a key founding figure in the creation of the United States.

The Design

The obverse features Martin Jennings’ depiction of King Charles III, presenting His Majesty’s left-facing profile. Encircling the portrait is the inscription “CHARLES III·D·G·REX·F·D·2 POUNDS·2025,” signifying the King’s name, the Latin phrase “By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith,” the year of mintage, and the coin’s face value.

The reverse, designed by artist Bella Biggs, features a striking double portrait, with the bust of British King George III facing the effigy of American President George Washington, encircled by ‘OUR LIVES, OUR FORTUNES AND OUR SACRED HONOR’, a phrase written into the Declaration of Independence.

Because it is a proof coin, it showcases mirror-like surfaces that beautifully contrast with its frosted design elements.
