2013 PCGS PR-69 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coin
The American Eagles program, first introduced in 1986, comprises Silver Eagle coins both in bullion and in proof finish to meet the needs of investors and collectors alike.
Due to their proof finish, these coins exhibit a distinctive mirror-like luster. Like their bullion counterparts, they contain one-ounce coins of 99.9% fine silver, a USD1 denomination, legal tender status, and iconic designs signed by Adolph A. Weinman and John Mercanti.
Today, SD Bullion offers 2013 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof coins graded and certified by PCGS as PR-69 coins.
Coin Highlights
- Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as a PR-69 by PCGS;
- Contains 1 oz of .999 fine silver;
- Proof coin;
- Produced by the US Mint;
- Hold a USD 1 denomination and legal tender status;
- The obverse showcases the Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman;
- The reverse features the Heraldic Eagle by John Mercanti;
- IRA eligible.
The Design
The obverse was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and initially stamped the 1917 Half-Dollar Coins. The American Eagle Program rescued the Walking Liberty to be on Silver Eagles.
As Lady Liberty walks towards the sun, folded in the American flag, she welcomes the new immigrants with the oak and laurel branches she holds. The word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage complete the image.
The reverse image designed by John Mercanti features the Heraldic Eagle. It portrays thirteen stars over the eagle’s head, representing the original Thirteen Colonies. The Eagle carries the American Great Seal on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak.
The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR” inform face value, weight, metal content, and purity.
Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which contrasts with the design’s frosted image.
A PCGS PR-69 Coin
PCGS, which stands for Professional Coin Grading Service, is a renowned third-party service that evaluates and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
According to the scale, PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
