The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was a coin produced from 1916-1947 by the US Mint. The coin was designed by Adolf A. Weinman and replaced the Barber Half Dollar (1892-1915). In 1915, Mint Director Robert W. Woolley created a design contest for the new designs for dimes, quarters, and half dollars. This Walking Liberty design by Weinman won that design contest for the half dollars.
Walking Liberty half dollars were produced at the mints of Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The mint mark on the coin was moved the lower left of the reverse about halfway through 1917. On this replica silver round, it will have the “D” mintmark for Denver and will have the year 1941 minted on the obverse.
Walking Liberty Half Dollar Tribute Silver Rounds are minted by Intaglio Mint. This round will have a purity of .999 silver; customary to Intaglio Mint silver rounds and will have a weight of 2 troy ounces.
The obverse of these replica rounds features Lady Liberty walking towards a rising sun with her robes billowing in the wind. She carries olive and oak branches under her arm -- signifying peace and strength. Liberty is printed across the top, and In God We Trust appears on the right side, below the Y in Liberty. The year “1941” is minted at the bottom. This design is the inspiration for the now iconic Silver Eagle design.
The reverse of these silver rounds features a bald eagle about to take flight from a branch with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” minted above. To the left of the eagle is “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, the former motto of the United States. The words “TWO TROY OUNCES” & “.999 FINE SILVER” are minted at the bottom of the round.
These 2 oz Walking Liberty Half Dollar Silver Rounds from Intaglio will make fine additions to any precious metals portfolio or silver round collection.
