1971-1976 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar Off Quality - Random Year
The Eisenhower Dollar was the first dollar coin to circulate in the US after the Peace Dollar Series. The US Mint produced them from 1971 to 1978, with regular strikes made of copper-nickel clad, especifically issued by the Philadelphia branch.
The San Francisco branch also crafted Eisenhower Dollars. However, these coins were Uncirculated and Proof versions with a thin layer of 80% silver and 20% copper, with a core of 79% copper and 21% silver, for a total of .3161 Troy oz of actual silver content. These coins bear an “S” mint mark.
Today, you can purchase 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollars from SD Bullion. Though they do not meet SD Bullion's general standards of quality, they are officially backed US currency that were randomly selected between 1971 and 1976.

The Design
The US Mint Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro created the Eisenhower Dollar design.
The obverse honors WWII General and later President Dwight Eisenhower, portraying his left-profile effigy with the word “LIBERTY” engraved on top, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the left, and the year of issuance at the bottom.
The reverse pays tribute to the 1969 Apollo 11 Mission to the moon. It depicts the Bald Eagle carrying olive branches and flying over the moon’s surface, from where we can see the small planet Earth.
It also displays the Mission’s emblem, the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the coin’s face value of “ONE DOLLAR.
In 1976, to celebrate the United States’ bicentennial of independence, the US Mint released a special reverse design with the Liberty Bell superposed above the moon.
By purchasing this item, you may receive either the Apollo 11 Mission design or the 1776-1976 Liberty Bell design.
