The Design
The obverse depicts Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on horseback, with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” engraved at the top and flanked by stars. “STONE MOUNTAIN” and “1925” are inscribed on the lower left.
The reverse features a bald eagle with outstretched wings perched on a mountain crag. Above the eagle are the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Beside the eagle, the inscription reads, “MEMORIAL TO THE VALOR OF THE SOLDIER OF THE SOUTH.” At the bottom rim, “LIBERTY” and the coin’s face value of “HALF DOLLAR” are engraved.
