1901-O PCGS MS-62 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin

The US Mint first delivered Morgan Dollars in 1878 to circulate in American hands as the official dollar coin until 1904. Another quick strike of Morgan Dollars happened in 1921 for the same purpose.

Several branches of the US Mint manufactured Morgan Dollars, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City, until 1893, when coinage operations in this last facility ceased.

Those coins which bear the “O” mint mark were issued in the New Orleans Mint.

Today, SD Bullion sells 1901-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, sealed in PCGS slabs and certified as MS-62 coins.

  • Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as MS-62 coin by PCGS;

The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty wears a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara engraved “LIBERTY.”

It also contains the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of issuance.

The reverse features the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels encircling it.

Additional engravings correspond to the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and the “O” mint mark.

A PCGS MS-62 coin

PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

An MS coin indicates a Mint State coin, that is, a coin issued as a business circulation one. Grade 62 suggests that the coin may present marks and hairlines in focal areas, noticeable scuff marks, and below-average planchet quality. But acceptable overall appearance.
