1899 NGC MS-64 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin

US Mint Engraver George T. Morgan, a key figure in American coinage history, designed the dollar coin, which circulated in the US from 1878 to 1921. The Morgan Silver Dollar, named after him, contained .7734 oz of silver and was crafted more than once.

In 2021, the US Mint released a commemorative edition to celebrate the centennial of its last issuance.

At SD Bullion, you can find 1899 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, sealed in NGC slabs and certified as MS-64 coins.

Coin Highlights

  • Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as MS-64 coin by NGC;
  • Contains .7734 oz of silver;
  • Produced by the US Mint;
  • Issued in Denver and bears the “D” mint mark;
  • Part of the second strike of Morgan Dollars in the US;
  • Holds USD 1 denomination and legal tender status;
  • The obverse showcases Lady Liberty in the Phrygian cap;
  • The Bald Eagle is displayed on the reverse.

The Design

The obverse displays Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.”

The image, which contains Liberty’s left-profile bust, includes the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of issuance.

The Bald Eagle is displayed in the reverse with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it. The “D” mint mark from the Denver Mint is beneath the laurel wreath.

It also features the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”

An NGC MS-64 coin

NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company, like other third-party services, appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

MS stands for Mint State, referring to coins issued in the same format as a business circulation coin. 64 is the grade given to coins with average luster, noticeable, light scuff marks, or defects but with attractive overall quality.
