Morgan Silver Dollars were introduced in the US In 1878, containing .7734 oz of 90% silver, featuring George T. Morgan’s design to serve as the US’ official circulating dollar coin.

The US Mint manufactured Morgan Dollars until 1904, reintroduced in 1921, and after a century, it struck a commemorative centennial edition in 2021.

These coins were minted at several branches, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City, which stopped minting in 1893. 

Coins with the "S" mint mark were produced at the San Francisco Mint.

The Design

Lady Liberty’s left-profile bust, featured on the obverse, wears a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.” 

It includes the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of issuance.

On the reverse, the Bald Eagle is displayed with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it. The “S” mint mark from the San Francisco Mint is beneath the laurel wreath.

The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” accompany the image.

NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins independently from sovereign mints. It uses the Sheldon Grading Scale to rank coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business circulation sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines but still have an attractive overall appearance.
