The US Mint crafted Morgan Dollars in the bustling era of the late 1800s and early 1900s to be the official circulating dollar coin.

The Design

The obverse stamps Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed “LIBERTY.” 

The design also contains the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the coin’s year of issuance.

The reverse features the Bald Eagle with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it. 

It includes the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.” 

An NGC MS-63 Coin

NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins independently from sovereign mints. It uses the Sheldon Grading Scale to rank coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business circulation sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines but still have an attractive overall appearance.
