1882-S NGC MS-65 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin
The US Mint crafted Morgan Silver Dollars from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. During that period, Morgan Dollars served as the official circulating dollar coin in the US and featured George T. Morgan’s design, hence its moniker.
Morgan Dollars were issued in various branches of the US Mint, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City, until 1893, when coinage operations in this last facility ceased.
These coins, in particular, carry the “S” mint mark because they were issued in San Francisco.
You can find 1882-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, graded and certified by NGC as MS-65 coins, at SD Bullion.

The Design
On the obverse, Lady Liberty is portrayed in a left-profile bust wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara bearing the inscription “LIBERTY.”
It also features the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of issuance.
On the reverse, the Bald Eagle was depicted with outstretched wings, arrows, and olive branches in its talons and laurels surrounding it.
The image is supplemented by the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “S” mint mark from the San Francisco branch, and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
An NGC MS-65 coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) works independently from sovereign mints, appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.
An MS-65 coin means that the analyzed coin has the same format as a business coin that still displays high-quality luster despite its aged mintage. Minor contact marks and scatters may be noticeable, but the coin has an overall quality above the average.
