1878-S NGC MS-64 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin

Morgan Silver Dollars rank among the most cherished silver coins worldwide. Struck by the U.S. Mint between 1878 and 1904, each coin contains .7734 troy oz of silver, with classic reeded edges.

Their iconic designs feature two timeless symbols of American heritage: Lady Liberty and the Bald Eagle, crafted by Chief Engraver George T. Morgan, for whom the coin is named.

The US Mint struck Morgan Dollars at several facilities, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver, San Francisco, and Carson City. Production at the Carson City Mint ended in 1893.

Coins with the “S” mint mark indicate they were minted at the San Francisco facility.

Today, SD Bullion offers 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, graded and certified by NGC as MS-64 coins.

An NGC MS-64 coin

Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

MS stands for Mint State, referring to coins issued in the same format as a business circulation coin. 64 is the grade given to coins with average luster, noticeable, light scuff marks, or defects but with attractive overall quality.
