1787-2014 EB Gold Brasher Doubloon Commemorative NGC Certified
The commemorative edition of the 1787 Brasher Doubloon honors its legendary original, the first gold coin produced in the newly independent United States, which became a symbol of innovation, ambition, and the spirit of a fledgling nation.
The original Brasher Doubloons were hand-struck in 1787 by Ephraim Brasher, a prominent New York silversmith and close associate of George Washington. His distinctive “EB” hallmark, famously counterstamped on the eagle’s wing, signified quality and trust at a time when the U.S. Mint had yet to be established.
Issued in 2014 to commemorate this iconic design, the modern EB Gold Brasher Doubloon features faithful reproductions of the original artistry, capturing the classic motifs and layout of the New York Style piece.

The Design
The obverse of the 1787–2014 EB Gold Brasher Doubloon Commemorative features a faithful rendition of the original New York-style design.
It showcases the New York State Coat of Arms, with a radiant sun rising over a mountain range and a calm river in the foreground, symbolizing a new dawn for the young nation.
It also contains the Latin inscription "NOVA EBORACA COLUMBIA EXCELSIOR," translating to “New York, America, Ever Higher,” the name “BRASHER,” honoring Ephraim Brasher, and the dual dates “1787 - 2014” to bridge the original issue with this modern commemorative.
On the reverse, a heraldic eagle dominates the field, wings outstretched in a pose of strength and vigilance. A shield rests prominently on its chest, while the eagle clutches an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other.
Thirteen stars encircle the eagle’s head, representing the original colonies, and the Latin motto “UNUM E PLURIBUS” borders the design. Beneath the eagle, the date is flanked by decorative rosettes.
The reverse also bears the iconic “EB” punch, Brasher’s hallmark, usually placed on the eagle’s wing.
