American Seated Liberty Dime Silver Coin - Average - Random Years

First introduced in 1837, the Seated Liberty design by Christian Gobrecht remained in use until 1891, spanning a period of major growth and transformation in the United States. As one of the most recognizable and long-standing motifs in early American coinage, the Seated Liberty Dime carries significant historical and symbolic value. Throughout its mintage, various design updates were made, allowing each coin to reflect its own moment in history and offering an accessible way to own authentic 19th-century U.S. silver.

Today, SD Bullion offers American Seated Liberty Dime Silver Coins in Average Condition, with varied years of issuance, randomly selected from our inventory at the time of shipping.

Coin Highlights

• Contains approximately 0.0723 troy oz of actual silver content (.900 fineness);
• Produced by the US Mint from 1837 to 1891;
• Offered in Average Condition;
• Sovereign silver coins with a 10¢ face value and legal tender status;
• Assorted mintages and designs.

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty seated on a rock, holding a Union shield in one hand and a liberty pole topped with a Phrygian cap in the other—timeless symbols of freedom and national strength. Several design variations appeared over the decades: early issues from 1837–1838 feature a clean obverse with no stars, while coins minted from 1838–1853 display thirteen stars representing the original colonies. During 1853–1855 and again in 1873–1874, arrows were added beside the date to signify changes in silver weight. From 1860 through 1891, the stars were replaced entirely with the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”

The reverse presents a wreath encircling the denomination “ONE DIME.” Early versions carry a smaller, more delicate wreath, later updated in subsequent issues.
