$5 Face Roll - 90% 1916 - 1929 Mercury Dime Silver Coin

The Mercury Dime, formally known as the "Winged Liberty Head Dime," reflects the artistic essence of the early 20th century. Minted from 1916 to 1945, it proved to be one of those popular US Dime designs of all time.  The Mercury Dime was so named because of the striking similarity of the design of Lady Liberty on this coin with the classical depictions of the Roman God, Mercury. However,  Adolph Weinman, the sculptor who created the design, confirmed that the portrayal on these coins was indeed one that of Lady Liberty, with an ancient Phrygian cap atop her head.

While Mercury Dimes were minted from 1916 to 1945, most Mercury Dime rolls offered for sale typically contain common dates minted in the 1930's and 1940's that trade based on their silver value. This special roll offering is guaranteed to only contain better early dates minted between 1916 and 1929 that hold an additional numismatic/collector premium over their silver value. These "teens and twenties" rolls present an excellent opportunity to acquire these better early dates that are often missing from standard 90% silver dime rolls. Add some higher premium vintage US silver to your stack at a great price or cherry-pick these rolls for scarce dates needed for your Mercury dime collection!

  • Produced by the US Mint;

  • Pre-1965 90% silver coins;

  • The obverse features Lady Liberty with a Phrygian cap;

  • The reverse displays a Roman fasces, a bundle of rods with a projecting axe blade, next to an olive branch, representing the United States' readiness for war and commitment to peace.

  • Assorted mintages based on the coins date and mintmark.

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a winged cap, symbolizing freedom of thought. This elegant and intricate portrait has earned its enduring moniker due to its resemblance to the Roman god Mercury.

The reverse displays a fasces, a bundle of rods symbolizing unity and strength, paired with an olive branch to signify peace. Encircling these elements read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," reinforcing the coin’s cultural and historical significance.
