NGC MS-69 Brown Label 1 oz American Silver Eagles Coin Complete Set (1986-2024)
The US Mint introduced the American Silver Eagle Coin in 1986, with the premiere of the American Eagle Program.
Since its debut, the US Mint struck 40 editions of the American Silver Eagle coins. In 2021, the US Mint released two types of Silver Eagles to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Program: Type 1 with the original reverse design and Type 2 showcasing the new reverse design.
Today, SD Bullion offers the complete set of 40 one-ounce American Silver Eagles, sealed in NGC Brown Label slabs and certified as perfect MS-69 coins.
Product Highlights
- Contains 40 units of 1 oz American Silver Eagles, from each mintage since 1986;
- Each coin weighs 1 oz of .999 fine silver, which accounts for a 40 Troy oz of silver;
- Evaluated, encapsulated, and certified as MS-69 coins by the NGC;
- Produced by the US Mint;
- Each coin holds USD 1 and legal tender status;
- Housed individually in the NGC Brown Label slabs and gathered in an NGC plastic box;
- The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s Lady Liberty
- Type 1 original reverse design, by Jonh Mercanti;
- Type 2 new reverse design by Emily Damstra.
The Obverse Design
The original obverse design reproduces the 1917 Half Dollar Coin created by Adolph A. Weinman. The US Mint rescued this beloved image to be the face of the American Silver Eagles.
In the image, Lady Liberty has the American flag draped on her shoulder, and it flutters with the wind as she walks toward the sun's rays. She carries oak and laurel branches in one hand and stretches the other in a warm welcome.
The word “LIBERTY” appears on the upper rim, while the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” lies aside, and the year of mintage is on the bottom.
The Celebration of the American Eagle Program has only updated Weinman’s original depiction, featuring details that were not possible before.
Lady Liberty still walks toward the sun's rays, enveloped in the American flag, with laurel and oak branches on her left arm and a stretched right arm. The artist’s initials were added beneath the motto inscription on the lower right.
Type 1: Original Reverse Design
The original reverse design is Chief Engraver John Mercanti’s creation. The Eagle featured in a Heraldic one, with the National Shield in front of its breast. It carries arrows and olive branches on its talons and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak.
The Thirteen pointed stars in a triangular format over the Heraldic Eagle represent the original colonies. The country’s name arches over the image, while the coin’s face value, weight, metal content, and purity data are on the bottom.
Type 2: New Reverse Design
The 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Program gifted the Silver Eagles with a new reverse design.
It is a creation of Emily Damstra, which, instead of a Heraldic Eagle, features a more natural Bald Eagle with spread wings landing and carrying an oak branch.
The inscriptions on this side remain the same as the original design. They describe face value, weight, metal content, and purity. However, the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is now engraved right above “1 OZ FINE SILVER.”
An NGC MS-69 Coin
NGC stands for Numismatic Guaranty Company, and it is a third-party service that works independently of sovereign mints to appraise coins and grade them based on the Sheldon Grading Scale.
The scale provides coins with a specific status based on their condition, from 1 to 70.
MS stands for Mint State, referring to a coin made in the same format as a business circulation sample, which has never been in circulation. And the grade 69 refers to a coin whose original luster is preserved despite almost invisible minor contact marks or flaws.
