The Design

The obverse depicts Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design, which personifies the nation through the image of Lady Liberty. 

Lady Liberty has the American flag draped over her shoulder and oak branches in her arms. She walks with an outstretched arm, welcoming those seeking a fresh start in the new land.

The inscription “LIBERTY” is on top, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is on the lower right, and the year of mintage is at the bottom rim.

The reverse design was updated in 2021 to celebrate the program's 35th anniversary. 

Emily Damstra's new Bald Eagle depiction shows it perched on a branch. The coin’s information regarding weight, metal content, and purity reads “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER.”
