The US Mint crafted Mercury Dimes from 1916 to 1945 to meet internal demand as the US official 10-cent coin. They were made of 90% silver and imprinted with Adolph A. Weinman’s depiction of Lady Liberty, resembling the Roman God Mercury. Hence the moniker.
