Italian 20 Franc Gold coin - Average Circulated - Random Years

The Italian 20 Franc Gold Coin is a 19th-century European gold coin. These coins, which feature Umberto of Savoy’s effigy, were first struck from 1879, after the Proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy, until 1897.

It consists of a small coin produced by the Rome Mint, weighing .1867 oz of actual gold content. In addition to King Umberto I’s portrait, the coin features the Coat of Arms of Italy.

Today, SD Bullion offers Italian 20 Franc Gold coins of Average Circulated condition and varied mintage years, randomly selected according to our inventory availability.

Coin Highlights

  • Contains .1867 oz of actual gold bullion content;
  • Of average circulated condition;
  • Produced by the Rome Mint from 1879 to 1897;
  • Of varied years on mintage;
  • The obverse features Umberto I’s effigy;
  • The reverse displays the Coat of Arms of Italy.

The Design

The obverse showcases King Umberto I’s left profile bust, encircled by the inscriptions “UMBERTO I,” “RE D’ITALIA,” which translates to King of Italy, and the coin’s year of mintage at the bottom.

The reverse displays the Italian Coat of Arms, which consists of a crowned shield with the star of Italy atop, surrounded by laurels, and flanked by the coin’s face value. “L” stands for Lira, the official currency of Italy at that time at par with the French franc, and “20” for the monetary denomination. The “R” mint mark at the lower left refers to the Rome Mint.

Because they are average circulated coins, they may present signs of contact and wear.
