The Obverse Design
The obverse displays the Walking Liberty, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, engraved on the 1917 Half-Dollar coin, and rescued by the American Eagle Program.
Lady Liberty walks toward the sun's rays, enveloped in the American flag, with oak branches on her left arm and her right arm extended in welcome.
Additional inscriptions refer to the word “LIBERTY” engraved on top, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” aside, and the year of mintage at the bottom.
The Original Reverse Design
The first reverse design on Silver Eagles depicts John Mercanti’s Heraldic Eagle.
It depicts a heraldic eagle with wings outstretched and a shield adorned with stars across its chest. The eagle holds a banner in its beak, engraved with the words "EPLURIBUS UNUM," and grasps arrows and olive branches in its talons. Above the eagle, thirteen stars symbolize the original colonies.
Additional engravings read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
The New Reverse Design
The reverse design was updated in 2021 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program.
The Bald Eagle, designed by Emily Damstra, perches on a branch with its open wings.
The inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER,” referring to the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content, separated by stars and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
A CAC MS-70 Coin
Like other renowned third-party services, CAC (Certified Acceptance Corporation) appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.
