The Design

The obverse replicates the Mexican Libertad Coins, displaying ten public seals used throughout Mexican history, encircling the current one.

The Aztec Calendar

The Aztec calendar was based on two connected cycles that worked together.

The first, called xiuhpohualli, or “count of the years,” followed the solar calendar. It contained 365 days, organized into 18 months with 20 days each. The second cycle, known as tonalpohualli, or “count of the days,” lasted 260 days. It was likely connected to astronomical observations and combined 20-day periods with a repeating pattern of 13 numbers.

When these two cycles aligned, they formed 52 years that the Aztecs considered a complete “century.” This structure is illustrated on the famous Aztec Calendar Stone, which features the sun god Tonatiuh at its center, surrounded by symbols representing earlier eras of the cosmos.

The initials "PF" stand for "Proof Coin," indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. Because it is a reverse-proof coin, the background surfaces are matte, contrasting with the brilliant images engraved on it. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
