The Lunar Series, one of the Perth Mint’s most celebrated coin collections, offers platinum, gold, and silver coins in various sizes and finishes. It is released over a 12-year cycle aligned with the Chinese Lunar Calendar. 

This current cycle corresponds to the third cycle of coins, hence Lunar Series III, while this coin, in particular, is the sixth release for 2025, honoring the Snake—the sixth astrological sign of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which governs the year.

In addition to a colored reverse design, this coin marks the premiere of King Charles III’s effigy on the obverse of the series.

The Design

The reverse depicts a blueish snake coiled in a bamboo trunk. The colored image stands out amidst the monochromatic backdrop. It is accompanied by a Chinese character and its translation, “SNAKE,” the year of issuance, “2025,” and a discreet “P” mint mark on the left identifying the Perth Mint.

The obverse introduces King Charles III’s left profile bust, designed by Dan Thorne. It is encircled by inscriptions reading “CHARLES III,” “AUSTRALIA” on top, “1 oz 9999 Ag”, and “1 DOLLAR” on the bottom rim, referring to the coin’s weight, fineness, metal content, and face value. 

Because it is a proof coin, the blank surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, while the design elements are matte.
