2015-W PCGS MS-70 First Strike 1 oz American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin - Edmund C. Moy Label
The American Liberty is the first high-relief gold coin ever struck by the U.S. Mint. It is crafted from 99.99% pure gold and has the highest face value of any U.S. gold coin, at $100.
Designed by U.S. Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program artists, these coins feature bold, modern interpretations of Lady Liberty and the Bald Eagle. The high-relief strike enhances the artwork with a stunning three-dimensional effect, giving these iconic symbols a dynamic and contemporary presence.
These coins, in particular, were issued in the West Point Mint and purchased within 30 days of their official release.
In addition, they were certified by PCGS and sealed with the Edmund C. Moy Label, paying homage to the 38th Director of the U.S. Mint. Known as the Father of the Modern Coin Era, Moy served from 2006 to 2011, driving innovative designs and overseeing the creation of renowned series such as the 24K Gold Buffalo and the 2009 Ultra High Relief coin. His leadership propelled U.S. coinage to new heights, sparking global interest and setting milestones in gold and silver production.
SD Bullion offers 2015-W American Liberty High Relief Gold Coins, graded as MS-70 First Strike coins and sealed in PCGS slabs with an Edmund C. Moy Label.

The Design
The obverse was designed by Justin Kunz. It showcases a young Lady Liberty adorned with a wreath crown, a torch in one hand, and the American flag on a pole in the other. The inscription “LIBERTY” arches over the image, the year of issuance is on the lower left, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is at the bottom.
The reverse was created by Paul C. Balan. It depicts a Bald Eagle flying with an olive branch in its talons. It is inscribed with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” on top, the “W” mint mark from West Point on the left, and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
The coin’s information referring to weight, purity, metal content, and face value reads “1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD,” and “ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS.”
The high-relief strike gives the images depth and height, as the design elements extend beyond the coin’s edges.
A PCGS MS-70 “First Strike” coin
PCGS, or Professional Coin Grading Service, is renowned for grading coins using the Sheldon Scale independently of sovereign mints.
PCGS calls “First Strikes” the coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of the official release and submitted to its appraisal.
MS or Mint State describes a coin with the same format as an uncirculated business circulation sample. 70 is the grade given to coins with no visible flaws.
