The US Mint produced a commemorative gold coin in celebration of the 230th Anniversary of the Flowing Hair dollar, the nation's first dollar coin, which was first issued on October 15, 1794.

This coin, produced in the West Point Mint, replicates Robert Scot’s original design but is imprinted in High-relief. It contains 1 Troy oz of 99.99% pure gold.

The Design

The obverse reproduces the US first dollar coin, which depicted Lady Liberty's right-profile bust surrounded by 15 stars, representing the fifteen states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794. It also features the “LIBERTY” inscription and includes an updated “2024” date.

The reverse displays a laurel wreath surrounding an eagle with spread wings in the center, an early predecessor of the American heraldic eagle, along with the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”

The design was imprinted in high relief, so the artistic elements surpassed the coin’s edges, producing a 3-D effect.
