The Design

The obverse features Jody Clark’s Memorial Design in honor of Queen Elizabeth II, the former leader of the British Commonwealth Community.

The design, entirely monochromatic silver, is encircled by “ELIZABETH II,” “1952-2022,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1 oz 9999 Ag,” and “1 DOLLAR,” referring to the former Queen’s name and reigning period, the coin’s origin, weight, fineness, metal content, and face value.

The reverse portrays a teal-colored Chinese dragon and a flaming pearl, symbolizing wisdom. The coin’s background, imprinted with clouds and waves, remains silver. 

Further inscriptions on this side refer to the dragon’s corresponding Chinese characters: “DRAGON 2024” and “P125,” which stands for the Perth Mint's 125th anniversary.

The Dragon in the Chinese Culture

The Dragon has long been linked to the emperor and his lineage, symbolizing wisdom, enlightenment, strength, and authority. 

It represents abundance, wealth, and good fortune. As the fifth animal in the Chinese Lunar Calendar, the Year of the Dragon is believed to embody the creature's mythological significance, influencing the year's fortune accordingly.
