The Design
The obverse design honors the former leader of the British Commonwealth Community, Queen Elizabeth II, through the effigy created by Jody Clark.
The design, entirely monochromatic silver, is encircled by “ELIZABETH II,” “1952-2022,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1 oz 9999 Ag,” and “1 DOLLAR,” referring to the former Queen’s name and reigning period, the coin’s origin, weight, fineness, metal content, and face value.
The dragon featured on the reverse side has its twisted body colored blue with details in orange. The coin’s background, imprinted with clouds and waves, remains silver.
Further inscriptions on this side refer to the dragon’s corresponding Chinese character, the inscription “DRAGON 2024” and “P125,” standing for the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint.
The Dragon in the Chinese Culture
The Dragon has long been associated with the emperor and its lineage. It is a symbol of wisdom, enlightenment, strength, and command.
Therefore, it is a powerful sign of abundance, wealth, and good fortune. The Dragon is the fifth animal from the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Because of that, each Year of the Dragon is expected to attract the symbolism behind the creature’s myth and influence its year’s fortune.
Those born under the sign of the Chinese Lunar Dragon in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, and every 12th preceding year are said to be ambitious, successful, and charismatic.
