In 2024, the series released Aves, depicting the terror bird, also known as Phorusrhacidae. 

Terror birds, towering up to 3 meters tall, were top predators during the Neogene and Paleogene periods. They were fast hunters with long legs and hook-shaped beaks, running up to 50 km/h across South America. Their extinction likely resulted from competition with new predators after the land bridge between North and South America formed, along with climate changes.

These silver coins from the Evolution of Life Collection weigh 1 Troy oz of 999.9 pure silver and showcase darker tones because of their antique finish.

The Design

In tribute to the significance of the archaeological discoveries, the coins showcase darker shades achieved through an antique finish on their surfaces. 

The remains of the species are highlighted in gold tones and crafted in ultra-high relief, creating a 3D effect on the images.

Because of that, the Phorusrhacidae skeleton showcased on the obverse exhibits a very realistic aspect.

The inscriptions encircling the image are “AVES,” “NEOGENE PERIOD,” “EVOLUTION OF LIFE,” and “2024,” referring to the specimen, the geologic era, the series name, and the year of issuance.

The reverse depicts the Mongol Bank seal, and the coin’s face value, weight, fineness, and metal content are engraved with “MONGOLIA 1 oz .9999 SILVER.”
