The Bear is the motif stamped on the 7th edition of CIT’s Woodland Spirits Collection.

These magnificent animals inhabit dense forests, mountainous regions, coastal areas, and, in Mongolia, even the Gobi Desert. The Mongolians consider their bear, known as the Gobi bear or Mazalaai, a national treasure. Consequently, the Mongolian government actively supports the protection of this brown bear subspecies.

The Woodland Spirits Collection has displayed other characteristic woodland animals in previous editions: the fox, the rabbit, the raccoon, the hedgehog, the deer, and the chipmunk.

This one-ounce coin is made of 99.99% pure silver. Its alluring colored design is imprinted in a proof finish and high relief.

The Design

The reverse design, which is colored, showcases the bear in a close-up depiction amid the green foliage. The refined color applications make an interesting contrast with the brilliant white background from the proof finish. Because of the 3-D effect, the cute bear seems to be coming out of the coin, surpassing the coin’s edges.

The engravings on this side refer to the year of mintage and the collection’s name.

The obverse is monochromatic silver, exhibiting a mirror-like luster over the blank surface. The coniferous forest is the image in the background, while the Coat of Arms of the Mongol Bank lies in a central position. The inscriptions describe the coin’s monetary denomination of “500 TOGROG,” origin, weight, purity, and metal content through: “MONGOLIA 1 OZ .9999 SILVER.”
