The US Mint introduced the American Liberty gold coin in the numismatic market in 2015. It is the first American high-relief gold coin made of 99.99% pure gold. 

American Liberty gold coins are legal tender, with the highest face value of $100. They showcase enhanced renditions of Lady Liberty and the Bald Eagle designed by the U.S. Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program members using the 3-D effect to add depth and detail to the imagery.

These coins, in particular, are proof coins produced in the West Point branch. Therefore, they are imprinted with the “W” mint mark and a distinctive mirror-like luster from proof coins.

The Design

The obverse features a bristlecone pine, a species native to California, Nevada, and Utah, thought to be the oldest living organisms on Earth, and are capable of living up to 5,000 years. Bristlecone pines can grow in places where other plants are unable, and often are the first species to repopulate the land after cataclysmic changes, such as a lava run or a glacial runoff. 

The word "LIBERTY" arches above the image, the year of issuance is on the lower right, the West Point mint mark “W” can be located below the year of issuance, and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is off to the left-hand side of the design.

On the reverse, a young bald eagle is standing on a rocky outcropping moments before it takes flight.

The image includes the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" at the top, the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and details about the coin's weight, purity, metal content, and face value, reading "1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD" and "ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS." can be found as well.

Due to the high relief, the design elements exhibit depth and height, surpassing the coin's edges. The proof finish provides the blank surfaces with a mirror-like luster, while the engraved design elements are matte.
