Unlike the bullion version, these 2023 2 oz Silver Libertads have a reverse proof finish, which means the design elements received a special polish to display a matte finish on a frosted background.

The design showcases an honoring motif to the Mexican Independence, full of symbolism and historical relevance.

The Design

The Libertad Series honors the Mexican Independence from Spanish colonization. The obverse design showcases eleven versions of the Coats of Arms used throughout Mexican history. 

The image engraved on all seals is the national Eagle defeating the rattlesnake, representing the Mexican superiority over the foreign presence. 

The central seal surrounded by “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” is the current one.

On the reverse, the feminine figure is Victoria, the Roman goddess of Victory, which became a monument in Mexico City. 

“2 ONZAS PLATA PURA 2023 LEY .999” describes the coin’s weight, metal content, year of issuance, and purity. The “M” on the right is the Mexican Mint mintmark.

Reverse-proof, as the moniker suggests, makes the opposite effect of usual proof coins. They have a frosted background, noticeable on blank spaces, and mirror-like images engraved.
