The 2024 Silver Eagle Design
Since its inaugural strike in 1986, the obverse of the American Silver Eagle has portrayed the Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman. It was originally created for the Half Dollar coin in 1917. This timeless image portrays Lady Liberty gracefully walking toward the sun's rays, draped in the American flag, and holding oak branches in her left arm. With her right arm outstretched, she warmly welcomes those in pursuit of opportunities on American soil. The word "LIBERTY" is elegantly inscribed along the upper rim, while the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is positioned to the side, accompanied by the mint year at the bottom.
On the reverse side, specially designed in the 35th year of the program by Emily Damstra, a new bald eagle depiction breaks away from the traditional heraldic eagle originally displayed on the coin. Damstra presents a majestic bald eagle in mid-flight, clutching an oak branch in its talons as if adding another branch to its nest.
The outer rim of the reverse features engravings that read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. ONE DOLLAR. 1 OZ. FINE SILVER." and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
