The Design

The obverse features the Coat of Arms of Mexico. The current one is centralized and encircled by “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. 

The other ten seals that surround it are previous versions. They all share, as a permanent element, the national Eagle in battle position, defending the nation against the foreign rattlesnake.

The reverse design reproduces the Monument of Freedom in Mexico City.

It showcases the 17-foot Statue of the Winged Victory and the inscription “1 ONZA PLATA PURA 2023 LEY .999,” referring to weight, metal content, fineness, and year of issuance. The “M” on the right identifies the Mexican Mint.

The Absence of face value

Despite not featuring an imprinted monetary denomination, Libertad coins are worth their weight in silver. The Central Bank of Mexico ensures their legal tender status based on weight, purity, and the silver spot price.
