2023 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin
American Gold Eagles are among the market's most-sold gold coins. Comprising fractional sizes besides the traditional 1 oz gold coins, the Gold Eagles celebrate the 38th production year with the 2023 strike.
The ¼ oz Gold Eagle may interest investors and collectors for its more affordable entry. They are smaller coins, but like their counterparts in the collection, they are legal tender within US territory, IRAs-eligible, and bear the mark of high-quality bullion refining by the US Mint. You can now buy 2023 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle coins online from SD Bullion.
- Contains ¼ oz of .9167 fine gold;
- Face value of $10, guaranteed by the US Federal Government;
- IRAs eligible;
- The obverse features Lady Liberty’s depiction by Saint Gaudens;
- The reverse showcases the new bald eagle by Jennie Norris.
The 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program in 2021 announced a new era for the US Mint. The first noticeable change was the reverse design that stamps the American Eagle Series.
Substituting the original Miley Busiek’s family of bald eagles, the new Jennie Norris portrait displays a left-profile close-up of the national bird, focusing on its remarkable details, like the hooked beak and the deep staring eyes. The artist’s initials are beneath the image, discreetly engraved.
The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” appear on the upper rim, and right under them, the two mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are vertically lined up. On the bottom, the inscriptions read “10 DOLLARS” and “1/4 OZ FINE GOLD.”
The obverse remains Saint Gaudens’ original creation. Lady Liberty has the word “LIBERTY” arched above her as she walks forward with the Capitol Building on her lower left and sun rays in the background. Heading to the future, she carries a torch and an olive branch as symbols of light and peace. The year of mintage appears aside.
The 2023 1/4 oz American Gold Eagles have an improved anti-counterfeiting mechanism. The edges contain a reeded variation. It is a small chip of a plain, smooth surface randomly inserted in the reeds.
The ¼ oz American Gold Eagle Mintage
As a standard level for the American Gold Eagles, each coin has .9167 pure gold in its composition, added to 3% silver and 5.33% copper to create a more resistant and durable alloy. The coin is guaranteed to contain an entire quarter-ounce of pure gold, as the silver and copper are extra additions to the total weight in pure gold.
The diameter is 22mm, and the gross weight is just over .27 troy ounces, making these coins simple to store, transport, and display.
The American Eagle Series
The American Eagle Series debuted in 1986 with its silver version after the Liberty Coin Act. The Gold Eagle counterpart and its fractional sizes joined the collection in the same year. The high levels of metal content, the credibility of the US Mint, and the outstanding designs that stamped the series made them quickly conquer their space as one of the most sought-after gold bullion coins.
The Mint kept evolving over the years, resulting in successful annual strikes, some variety of polishments, including Burnished and Proof, and the inclusion of two other metal-based coins: the Platinum Eagle and the Palladium Eagle, to the collection.
Why invest in Gold Eagles?
Gold Eagles are the most successful coin program in the bullion market. Because of their long-lasting strikes and varied sizes, these coins are easily available for transactions.
As gold spot prices tend to be high because of gold's intrinsic value and relatively stable, even the lowest inputs tend to remain valuable over the years.
2023 1/4 oz American Gold Eagles may be an exciting way of investing in physical gold bullion at affordable prices, enjoying easy storage and high liquidity.
