The Design
As a standard to most minted gold bars, the obverse receives the bar’s hallmarks regarding their essential information. Weight, purity, and metal content lie under the Mint’s logo and read: “10g,” “999.9,” and “FINE GOLD.”
It is the reverse side that displays the series motif. The Roman goddess Britannia got a warrior depiction by Jody Clark, with a Corinthian helmet, the Union Jack Shield, and a trident. The only inscription on this side lies on the lower left with her name in capital letters: “BRITANNIA”.
Britannia
Britannia has long been the protector of Britain. Since the 15th century, the image of this Roman goddess represented bravery, strength, and pride and became a legacy of national symbolism. Over the years, Britannia has become the feminine personification of Britain.
The name “Britannia” has Latin origins. It comes from “britannicae” as a reference to how Romans called the British Isles conquered. And also a reference to “Britain,” the island which includes England, Scotland, and Wales.
