Perth Mint has delivered one of the most eagerly anticipated coin releases in recent times, the 10 oz variant of the next coin in the Lunar Series II coin program – the 2018 10 oz Year of the Dog Gold Coin. This is the 11th release in Perth Mint’s 12-coin Lunar Series II.
Each of these coins contains 10 troy ounces of 0.9999 fine gold. Moreover, they carry face values of $1000 (AUD) – denoting their legal tender status in Australia. However, this face value is never actually used because the value of gold in the coin far outstrips its face value.
The reverses of these gold coins bear the portrayal of a Labrador Retriever dog among the rocks, with a pine tree in the background. Perth Mint designer, Ing Ing Jong, designed the reverse sides to honor the Chinese Year of the Dog, 2018.
On the other hand, the obverse sides of these gold coins showcase the familiar Ian Rank-Broadley rendition of Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy. Her Majesty is facing the right in this image, and this design is common to all Australian legal coinage.
These 2018 10 oz Year of the Dog Gold Coins are not only products worthy of ushering in a new year, they are also integral parts of the Lunar Series II collection. Any collector missing this coin will not have a complete set. Moreover, the 10 troy ounces of 0.9999 pure gold content in these coins makes them valuable additions to precious metals investment assets as well.
